Arkansas Regional Coalition of the Ouachitas (ARCO) had its monthly meeting at Rich Mountain Community College on Wednesday February 15th. Guest speakers were Mark Peterson from the University of Arkansas Extension Service who made a presentation on how he is going to help the communities make improvements and Jerry Shields and Al Gathright from the Traildogs.
Gar Eisele of Mena, who chairs the Coalition and is also actively involved in their chamber, commented on what a wonderful turnout it was and the importance of getting communities together to accomplish great and wonderful projects by sharing fresh ideas and donating time to get the projects done.

The Arkansas Regional Coalition of the Ouachitas (ARCO) continues gaining momentum in their efforts to take a proactive approach to attracting business and industry to rural west-central Arkansas. While many towns and rural communities across Arkansas continue experiencing business closures, this group is actually implementing tools to tackle the problem of a struggling global economy head-on.

Throughout my administration, I have been interested in the completion of Interstate 49 that runs through Arkansas. Since taking office in January of 2007, I have dedicated state and federal funds for I·49 from all available funding sources. I write this letter to introduce you to the I·49 International Coalition, a group of more than 100 businesses, associations, public entities, and individuals in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri. Led by its president, Curt Green, and its executive director, Gard Wayt, this group is working collectively across county and state lines to complete the unfinished segments of Interstate 49 between New Orleans and Kansas City, at which point the highway joins with Interstate 29 from Kansas City to Winnipeg, Canada.
